EPE President and CEO, Hala Ballouz will participate in a panel with Ryan Schoppe and Erik Ela at the 2023 IEEE PES General Meeting on July 16 – 20, 2023, in Orlando, FL.
Wednesday, July 19, 2023, 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM Is Marginal Cost Pricing still the ideal electricity market design?
After years of low energy prices in the U.S., and generally low prices elsewhere across the world, 2021-2022 saw a steep increase in wholesale electricity prices, especially in Europe, but elsewhere including in the United States as well. This has led some in the industry and the media to challenge the idea that the price of electricity, set by the marginal cost to provide energy, should be paid to all resources that clear the market. Proponents of marginal cost pricing share the benefits it brings with innovation and competition. Others share the increased payments that may be paid by loads under this paradigm.
The IEEE PES GM is the premier annual power and electrical engineering event that will bring together leading PES members, power and electrical engineers, key academics, and engineering students from all over the world. The aim is to provide an international forum for experts to network, promote, share, and discuss vital issues and progressive developments that impact the field of electrical and power engineering.
