EPE's DER Project Management Case Study

Background

Ameren Illinois is a regulated utility company that delivers electricity and natural gas to residential and business customers in Illinois. It is a subsidiary of Ameren Corporation and is headquartered in Collinsville, Illinois. The company operates and maintains the electric grid and natural gas infrastructure, ensuring reliable energy delivery across its service territory. Ameren has experienced increasing demand from developers looking to interconnect with its infrastructure, driving the need for dozens of DER projects.

Challenge

The surge of DER projects with accelerated timelines from initiation to COD (12 - 18 months) has placed significant pressure on Ameren’s management and engineering teams. To manage this challenge, Ameren outsourced project management services to EPE. This effort required extensive coordination with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure all deliverables are met in compliance with interconnection agreements.
