EPE's Project Size Increase Analysis for 174 Power Global’s Solar Project

Background

The objective of this project was to provide a comprehensive analysis of options available to increase the maximum real power output for Nebula (Rayos Del Sol) and Vancourt Solar projects after reaching the Commercial Operation Date (COD). The focus was on enhancing project output without initiating a new interconnection request, taking into account specific scenarios outlined below.

Challenge

Scenario A: Increasing real power output without altering the as-built project design, including the same number of inverters, reactive device sizes, and MPTs.

Scenario B: Identifying modifications or additions to the as-built project design to maximize real power output based on installed module capacity and compliance with ERCOT requirements/protocols.

Approach

EPE’s approach involved thoroughly examining ERCOT's regulations to determine the maximum allowable project size increase for Nebula (Rayos Del Sol) and Vancourt Solar projects post-COD without triggering a new interconnection request. Simultaneously, EPE utilized low-flow models based on IFC or As-Built drawings to gain insights into the current project configuration and identify areas for enhancement.

Solution

EPE conducted a focused reactive power study to optimize the utilization of reactive devices and ensure alignment with project requirements. Additionally, a load flow study pinpointed and addressed potential equipment overloads, such as collection system cables and transformers, that could constrain project size increases. EPE aimed to seamlessly implement enhancements and elevate overall project performance while complying with ERCOT regulations.

EPE provided 174 Power Global with a holistic view of available options to increase the real power output for Nebula (Rayos Del Sol) and Vancourt Solar projects. The results included actionable insights for each scenario, ensuring compliance with ERCOT regulations and optimizing the projects' performance without the need for a new interconnection request. The developed procedure served as a roadmap for implementing the identified enhancements, facilitating a seamless transition to increased project sizes.
