The client sought to transform its energy distribution network to align with the evolving role of a DSO. With a diverse set of existing systems, including ADMS, GIS, and multiple planning tools, the challenge was to assess these technologies for alignment with DSO requirements, identify critical gaps, and explore emerging technologies to future-proof operations. The client needed a structured approach to streamline its systems, optimize DER management, and ensure compliance with new market regulations like FERC 2222.
Approach

Solution
EPE was engaged to conduct a three-phase engagement that included a comprehensive assessment of the client’s current systems, a gap analysis, and the identification of future-leaning applications to drive innovation and efficiency.
Task 1 - Assessment of Current Systems and Tools: EPE provided a Current State Assessment Report highlighting system capabilities, integration points, and alignment with DSO goals.
Task 2 - Identification of Capabilities and Gaps: EPE created a Gap Analysis Report with a detailed comparison of existing functionalities against DSO requirements. EPE offered recommendations for closing identified gaps.
Task 3 - Future-Leaning Applications: EPE provided Future State Recommendations and a phased Implementation Plan that outlined a roadmap for technology enhancements, prioritized based on impact and feasibility.
