

As new types of large loads connect at unprecedented scale, system planners and operators are facing new challenges to grid reliability.
Today’s large loads exhibit fundamentally different behaviors than those historically served by the grid. A series of interrelated reports from the Energy Systems Integration Group (ESIG) examines these differences in depth, identifying opportunities to strengthen reliability and better understand the potential impacts of large load integration.
EPE’s Ahmed Rashwan, P.E., P.Eng., Vice President of Transmission Planning and Operations, led the ESIG Large Loads Task Force (LLTF) report series, providing technical leadership and overall direction. In addition, Hanyue Li, Senior Manager of Energy Market Analysis, contributed to the series as a member of the LLTF.
Together, the reports provide guidance to system operators, utilities, and developers on understanding large load behavior, assessing reliability risks, and developing interconnection performance requirements tailored to the needs of their jurisdictions. The reports include:
