ERCOT NOGRR-245 Compliance Activities After April 1, 2025

By John Zong

While IBR resource entities should have filed their ERCOT RFI DocuSign submissions and any exemption or extension requests by April 1, 2025, NOGRR-245 compliance remains an ongoing priority. Several project types require continued attention to ensure full alignment with NOGRR-245

  • Legacy Projects (SGIA signed before August 1, 2024): Projects that are capable of meeting NOGRR-245 requirements by December 31, 2025, but have yet to maximize ride-through capabilities, regardless of exemptions granted.
  • Legacy Projects with Extensions: Projects with an ERCOT-approved extension that must still comply by their new deadline.
  • New Projects (SGIA signed after August 1, 2024): Projects that have not maximized ride-through capabilities or finalized inverter and BoP equipment ride-through settings.
  • New Projects with IEEE-2800 Extensions: Projects granted an extension for meeting IEEE-2800 Sections 5, 7, and 9 requirements.

Significant work is still required between now and December 31, 2025 (or the ERCOT-granted extension date). Most sites will need to:

  • Develop optimal ride-through settings: Ensure inverters, turbines, and substation equipment are configured to maximize ride-through capabilities.
  • Submit model packages: Provide ERCOT with a proposed model package demonstrating maximum ride-through capability before implementing any field changes.
  • Complete field implementation: Apply setting changes in the field by December 31, 2025, or by the ERCOT-granted extension deadline.
    • Ensure your IBR facilities are prepared for the primary NOGRR-245 compliance deadline (December 31, 2025, or the ERCOT-granted extension date).
