Many well-capitalized developers have enough safe harbored equipment and robust pipelines for the next 4 years, but eventually the industry must face the reality of an end to tax credits and incentives. It’s estimated that 30% of solar and 57% of onshore wind capacity are resilient to ITC and PTC expirations by achieving a before-tax LCOE below their respective markets’ forward power and REC prices without relying on tax credits. If PPA prices rise and costs go down, the capital stack can be created sustainably, but needs to happen to make the math work out.
