Are You Ready for January's SERC Interconnection Window Openings?

By Horea Catanase

The Southeast U.S. is rapidly becoming one of the most competitive regions for renewable energy development. With many Southeastern Electric Reliability Council (SERC) region utilities preparing to open their 2026 interconnection queue windows early next year, developers and Independent Power Producers (IPPs) must act decisively as soon as possible.

Two major interconnection windows open next month. Read the details below to find out how you can prepare now.

Santee Cooper (DISIS Cluster)

  • Interconnection Window: 150 days, opens January 1, 2026
  • Key Challenges: Limited transmission capacity, evolving study process, coordination with neighboring utilities required
  • Recent Changes: New process in effect, PSCAD models need to be included in application

Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA)

  • Interconnection Window: 45 days, opens January 15, 2026
  • Key Challenges: Unique federal oversight, balancing renewables with existing hydro and nuclear generation, navigating the complexities of the resource solicitation cluster requirements
  • Recent Changes: TVA recently filed tariff revisions to align with Order 2023A
